Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Since it was our first session I reviewed suggested curriculum from student's school. I also used math games to gauge his aptitude and comfort level. Student is quite quick with math and I'd like to try to introduce complex addition and subtraction to see how he handles it. For our science segment I used one of his activity books to discuss states of matter - solid, liquid and gas. While student has a good handle on this, it was clear student was not familiar with evaporation, so I will make a point of working it into our upcoming "labs.""
"The student and I worked on multiplying and dividing fractions. By the end of the session she was completing problems quickly and absolutely understood the process."
"We worked on a Halloween word problem worksheet. We also reviewed measurement and worked on varied skills in Math boxes in the student's Math journal."
"I assisted the student with a review of his reading comprehension assignment. He had a one-page passage to read and 16 questions to answer. The student was not able to find the answers to the questions as quickly as he would have liked, but he was eventually able to identify the answers within the passage. This assignment took the entire time to review, but it was time well spent."
"This session of tutoring went very well. The student is making some improvements with understanding pre-primer sight words and he was also able to create sentences with the sight words. We also reviewed over basic math concepts. He was able to count numbers and identify numbers on math worksheet activity."
"I used one of my worksheets to teach the student factorization to help her in her base ten unit (i.e., 1000 can be broken down into 100*10 and further into 10*10*10 which is also 2*5*2*5*2*5). We also talked about prime numbers as the building blocks for composite numbers and why the number 1 did not count as a prime number."
