Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed cellular respiration and photosynthesis. For photosynthesis the transformation of light energy to chemical energy was discussed and how photosynthetic pigments like chlorophyll allow that to happen, as well as evolutionary mechanisms of certain plants in hot and arid climates."
"We covered a few more questions on the student's homework and were able to complete his assignment. He's made a lot of progress, and I left him with a sequence of steps he can use to approach any of this type of problem. He seems much more comfortable than when we started. Great job! The student has been a pleasure to work with."
"This was another good session with the student. We finally wrapped up molecular genetics, which is probably the most information rich section of the entire AP exam. We also began to go over Mendelian genetics which we will finish on Sunday. The student seems to understand this section pretty well. I encouraged him to stay on top of it, as there is a high probability a substantial amount of questions will come from it."
"The student and I were preparing for her final exam next week. We primarily focused on the cell cycle, DNA replication, and cancer, but we also talked a bit about muscle contraction. She asked me questions that she had about the content, and we were able to work through things she didn't know or understand. She asked very insightful, astute questions. We also went through the exercise of brainstorming possible questions that could show up as short answer prompts, which was helpful. We will be meeting one more time next week."
"The student and I were working on free body diagrams and finding the net force on an object. She had a worksheet, which she almost finished, of word problems. She had to draw the free body diagram, find the net force, and then draw a free body diagram of the net force acting on it. Everything went well, she said she felt the material made more sense after the session, and we're meeting to finish up tomorrow!"
"The student and I worked more in depth today, reviewing problems for her exam and going over some acid/base chemistry. We did problems involving ICE tables, pH and pH changes, buffers, and titration. She seemed to be a lot more comfortable with these types of problems after the session, and we will probably have another session later this week or weekend to review the rest of the material from her test review."
