Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we continued to practice algebra problems, covering inequalities and linear/rational/variable equations. We reviewed how to convert word problems into equations, how to reduce inequalities, laws of exponents, and the equation of a line. The student had taken the quantitative assessment since the last session. Although the student is not very concerned about the writing portion, we spent a short time reviewing the structure of the writing task, some strategies for writing a good essay, and I pointed her to some resources for practicing and reviewing sample essays which she would prefer to do on her own time."
"The student came prepared with some lingering questions on the math content for the exam, and we decided it was the best use of our time to focus on them. With some guidance, she was able to ultimately solve many of the problems on her own. Next time, we will finish up the last few questions she still has and wrap up with some more vocabulary practice and a discussion of test-day strategies."
"We began by talking about Reading Comprehension. The student needs to assemble a list of specific questions for me-based on questions on which she had the most issues overall. We reviewed several questions she had from the averages problems. We then worked on standard deviation, of which I assigned my standard subset from a standardized preparation guide. We then worked on "Variables in the Choice". These are harder, so she will need to carefully do all 20 for homework. I also assigned 2 essays and a small review section of selected fraction problems."
