Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered gas laws, including Boyle's Law, Charles' Law, the combined gas law, the ideal gas law, and Dalton's Law, and vapor pressure. Example problems were given and solved."
"Today I worked with the student on topics such as thermodynamics, enthalpy of a reaction, and specific heat equation problems. She is making good progress!"
"Today was our first meeting, and we were going over redox reactions. We also did some practice exercises to help her get comfortable with the different equations and show her more of how the electrons move during these reactions."
"Today's session was a review of the gases ahead of the student's midterm tomorrow. Concepts included converting between Pascals, millimeters of mercury, and atmospheres. We also applied the ideal gas law in several problems, which also integrated multiple steps such as converting between units of pressure. Most of her struggles stem from using dimension analysis to follow her units or recalling what the question is asking her to solve. Nonetheless, I feel that she can overcome her struggles by writing out her known values or given information, relevant formulas, and the unknown variables. I did notice that she quickly recognized how to solve questions that involved using the molar ratio from the balanced questions, which is promising from last week's session. There will be another session this Friday when we will debrief about the exam and begin to address the next topic in her course."
"Tonight the student and I had a tutoring session that focused on his up-coming test tomorrow. Specifically, we talked about hetero/homogeneous mixtures, states of matter, compounds vs. mixtures, and intensive vs. extensive properties. We also spent a little bit of time, when we finished his class review, reviewing some of the topics we touched on yesterday. I was very pleased that he remembered everything really well and had no problem answering my questions on atomic structures. I felt he was ready to move ahead a little bit, and we began talking about chemical reactions, specifically balancing reactions."
"Tonight we worked on her Chemistry project and were able to help her get ahead of her studies by getting it done. It involved conversions, so we worked on that a lot. She seemed to have a good grasp on it, she just needs to take her time and look at things closely to make sure she is doing it right. We talked about her schedule and will be meeting regularly on Sundays and throughout the week she will give me notice on what evenings work best for her on an as needed basis."
