Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed primarily math (focusing on exponents and functions), but we also took a look at her essays from previous SATs and discussed ways she could improve that part of her test."
"We reviewed math topics: probability, ratios, order of operations, algebra, simplifying expressions, geometry, and word problems."
"It had been a while since she and I met, but we re-addressed the writing section again, as it's often the section most overlooked in SAT preparation, and, honestly, an easy 700 points! We addressed subject-verb agreement, tense agreement, subjunctive clauses, and how to identify the best choice almost logically based on how one would say the sentence! I warned her of certain English caveats she may have mistakenly gotten used to saying (we generally text in run-ons, and the modern age is full of them, but the SAT isn't having any of that), and we took a deeper look into sentence structure. We then really took a go at the math section, covering harder algebra topics like absolute values, function compositions, and equation formation given a table. She's been taught how to handle absolute values from her previous academics, she worked with function compositions recently in her pre-calculus class, and I showed her mental shortcuts for forming equations to fit the data when all she's given are numbers. We also took a practice math SAT test, and she scored a 17/22 on it, having skipped only one, so we're making lots of progress!"
