Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Lots more electrostatics and circuits, and other "more difficult" problems. The student does really good calculation work. My biggest contribution is to direct her in how to "set up" the equations that she needs to solve for various unknown quantities. We worked long and hard this evening in preparation for her to take a test tomorrow."
"She has a retake test tomorrow on equilibrium and solubility. We worked through additional practice problems and she did really well. Her biggest achievement is being able to differentiate between solubility and equilibrium constant problems."
"Our session today focused on more advanced acid/base chemistry topics, primarily buffers and titrations. The students informed me that they had already taken a test on basic acid/base material, but were starting an extended unit on those two aforementioned topics. We began by reviewing some basic definitions and relationships between equivalence point, pKa, pH, weak/strong titrations vs strong/strong titrations. We worked through all of the available questions on buffers and titrations. Once we had exhausted those, I provided some more advanced examples of calculating pH after titration of a weak acid using the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation. This was our last exercise. I plan on checking in before our next session to see if I should prepare more material to work on, or if the students will have an assignment to do together."
