Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over finding the roots of equations (finding x-intercepts of parabolic equations) and also reviewed biology (mostly about ecology/evolution). The student has made strong progress on completing past homework assignments and will hopefully re-take his first exam this week."
"Today, we covered graphing rational expressions, identifying asymptotes, and finding the domain of a function. We will be meeting again on Tuesday to prepare for a test for next Friday."
"Today we went over quadratic functions. The student is learning how to complete the square and how to apply multiple concepts to solve an unfamiliar problem. His attitude is always positive and eager. We are practicing different techniques with the Punnet square to multiply binomials as well."
"We went over a review packet involving linear functions. The student seems to be having a bit of trouble applying his Algebra I knowledge and his previous math knowledge in these problems. We discussed a plan to address these issues, and there is a possibility that we might be increasing the amount of sessions in order to keep up with the new concepts that he is learning in his class. Overall, the session was excellent."
"For this session, the student and I focused on solving algebraic expressions. Before we did that, we practiced solving fractions using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. He still continues to make progress with solving these types of problems. He also mentioned that he didn't fully understand the concept of identifying the parts and solving algebraic equations. So, we focused on identifying the terms of the expressions as well as identifying the variables, coefficients, and constants of the equation. We also looked at solving for x on numerous types of algebraic expressions. By the time the session was over, I could tell that he was better understanding the material. More practice is needed to master the concept."
"I worked with the student again today. He has a test tomorrow and really wants to do well. As always, he was enthusiastic about learning and reinforcing concepts. This session, we focused on systems of functions and solving methods. From his last exam, we discovered that his comprehension was not an issue. The issue was his mindfulness to small details (e.g., carrying the proper signs and being careful about arithmetic). On this exam, he will be very focused on being careful and checking his answers. I am very confident this, coupled with his strong understanding of the material, will produced excellent results."
