Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I worked through the homework assigned to him from his business course. We worked on subjects such as factoring polynomials and simplifying expressions as well as working with cost, revenue and profit functions. He felt a little nervous with the material in the beginning, but he grew in confidence as we worked through more problems."
"In preparation for the midterm and final examinations next week, we went over a practice test and primarily focused on optimization problems. The biggest ones were those involving inscribed shapes, which we solved using graphs, and came up with strategies to identify the graphs to make these solutions. We also went over more things to cover in the next session."
"In preparation for the student's calculus final exam, we reviewed some of the most recent material he has found challenging. This included the following topics: estimating the area under a curve using rectangles (Riemann sums) involving left endpoint, midpoint, and right endpoint estimations; solving integrals graphically (looking at areas under curves) and algebraically (finding antiderivatives); and solving both definite and indefinite integrals. He initially had some difficulties knowing how to set up the Riemann sum problems and occasionally found antiderivatives challenging, but he had a solid understanding of all of this material by the end of the session. He will continue to work through the recommended textbook problems to prepare for his exam."
"In the last two sessions, we have mainly worked on reviewing the student's homework problems. In doing so, we covered a variety of types of problems: using L'Hopital's rule to, using the Mean Value Theorem, finding absolute and relative minimums and maximums, calculating critical points, differentiation of trig functions and inverse trig functions (involving chain rule), and related rates."
"In this session we mostly prepared for the student's upcoming quiz. Specific topics we covered were some general math, subtracting/adding fractions (obtaining common denominators), reciprocals, and further practice on quadratic equations. He will know his score/grade soon, after he completes the quiz."
"In this session, the student and I continued our review for his first few weeks of calculus. We continued we some of the problems from last time, which included problems on conics and trig functions. After we finished that problem set, we went through the entire packet again for errors, and reminders of the topics covered. We finished by working through all of the exercises labeled "possible test exercises" in the chapter review from the course book. He is very confident with this material, and needed help only with some small algebra details. We made sure to review conics in detail, because this is the newest material to him. Overall, this session went well, and he feels ready for the first week of class."
