Class Description
For students with learning differences reading below grade level, it can often feel like a significant jump to go from making out words and phrases to really understanding what they just read. That’s why these Special Education Reading Comprehension classes are so helpful in giving students a chance to practice comprehension skills in small groups of peers at the same reading level.
Level 3 is a group of students currently in the 4th through 6th grades who are reading at a 3rd grade level working together towards similar goals. This is the right class for students with a Lexile Level of 620-820.
Reading comprehension strategies include using visuals, answering questions about the reading content, predicting future events in the story, summarizing and retelling stories, identifying parts of the story, and making connections.
This class is intended for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with goals targeted at improving reading comprehension. The 4-week class is designed to be repeated until a reader is ready to move on to Level 4, so re-enrollment in future classes is encouraged and reading prompts will vary to give learners plenty of reading comprehension practice.
