The Science of Slime
Tik Tok Star, Chemistry Teacher, Scientist
Recently dubbed “Tik Tok’s Favorite Chemistry Teacher,” Phil Cook has been enthusiastically teaching chemistry for over two decades. Through unique and interactive experiments, he engages with learners all over the world–reigniting a love of science in some and introducing the world of chemistry to others.
About the class
You may know it as slime, gunk, muck, or sludge, but to a scientist the world’s slimiest substance is known as polymer—and, believe it or not, polymers play a major role in making the world a better place to live. In this hands-on class, explore the wonderful world of polymers as you make your own slime, nylon, and even synthetic caviar...because as both scientists and spelling champions know, goodness starts with goo.
Bring these items to join the fun:
Large mixing bowl
½ tablespoon of Baking Soda
1 tablespoon of Contact Lens Solution
4 fl oz Glue
Your choice of food coloring
Note: Making slime is messy, so parental supervision is suggested, and participation is not necessary to enjoy the class.
This StarCourse is no longer available.
But don’t fret…we have more classes to choose from!
The STEM Success Series
After you finish synthesizing slime, continue learning with classes on science, technology, engineering and math.
