Executive Function Skills - Boys Group
Students who struggle keeping binders and backpacks organized, getting homework completed and turned in on time, and effectively studying for tests, especially students with ADD or ADHD, can benefit tremendously from an executive function coach who can assist with study skills and organization.
This small group of 4th and 5th grade boys meet twice a week with an executive function coach to focus on organization systems, reminder systems, time management, study skills and the use of assistive technologies to help them build a foundation of success. They also learn how to advocate for themselves as they prepare for middle school. The group is made up of just boys because challenges related to executive function skills present differently across boys and girls.
By working as a group, students have the opportunity to share their experiences with peers so they do not feel so alone in their struggles. It also provides an opportunity for students to share what is working and not working so they can all help and support each other under the guidance of the organization coach.
This class can be repeated in order to reinforce these skills until they are mastered. If the student is on and IEP with any diagnosed learning differences, we recommend the Special Education version of this same class.
