Each month, students will join their mission crew for a new astronomical adventure, through hands-on projects, collaborative exploration, and expert instruction.

Theme Of The Month:

  • December: Earth, The Moon, And Beyond — Students will explore their own world from a cosmic perspective, learning about Earth as a planet, considering the important role the moon plays in making the Earth the only known home of life, and visiting the many asteroids and pieces of “space junk” that orbit and land on earth every day.

  • January: The Solar System — Students will explore their cosmic neighborhood as they visit the sun, planets, moons, and asteroid and Kuiper belts that make up our solar system.

  • February: Space Exploration — Students will explore the great history of space exploration, learning about the missions that paved the way for the moon landing and International Space Station, visiting the telescopes, probes, and rovers that have mapped the universe for us, and getting hands-on with the technologies and decisions that have made human space exploration possible.

  • March: The Future of Space Travel — Oh the places you’ll go! Students will explore the cosmic breakthroughs that their generation will take part in, from moon and Mars bases to civilian space travel to the search for extraterrestrial life. They’ll learn what’s planned and what’s possible, then push those limits as they chart the course for the future they’ll help create.

  • April: Mission to Mars — The next frontier for human space exploration is Mars, so this month we’ll make sure the next generation of astronauts is ready! Students will dissect learnings from Perseverance and the rovers that preceded it, explore the topography and terrain of the Red Planet, and map out what’s necessary for humans to visit and live on Mars in the near future

  • May: The Search for Extraterrestrial Life — One of the great questions in the universe is “are there aliens?” This month, students will break down the arguments for and against, imagine the various forms that life could take in other areas of the universe, and examine the most likely locations (hint: it might not be planets) where we’re looking for signs of life.
