Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student continued to work through her homework. We were seeing a lot of progress tonight with some of the concepts we have been working on the last several sessions. She is able to work a lot more independently. I think we will continue to see progress."
"The student did homework (making a language arts study guide and some math). He had a great attitude. Math continues to be the main area of concern. I am looking to add him to my Prodigy math account. At our next session we will do placement activities."
"The student did not have any math homework over the weekend. He said he needed some English help, so I helped him summarize the Act I from Macbeth. I read him a summary of each scene and he put it in his own words. We completed all 7 scenes. Then I had him start on math assessment/pretest for my information on working with whole numbers. He will continue at the next session."
"The student did not have any work from her Algebra 2 class to do. Picking up where we left off, we practiced multi step equations which used the order of operations. She is very weak in Algebra 2, but also in Algebra 1 and pre-Algebra concepts. After telling her to work slower and write out her work, she began to get answers right, however she continued to get positives and negatives mixed up. She often adds or subtracts wrong. I reminded her to write out all of her steps to eliminate this issue. I went over how to factor quadratics. Then, we were able to do the first set of examples of factoring. She understood, but had to be conscious of mixing up negative signs."
"The student didn't have any homework due for the next day, but he decided to get ahead for the week. Since the material was new, I had to teach him the concept of solving for a variable; the first worksheet took a bit of instruction, but by the time he got halfway through the second worksheet, he was working through the problems quickly and confidently."
"The student had a lot of homework in both math and science. Since she struggles with math we spent a majority of the time on math homework working on book problems. We worked on PEMDAS (order of operations), multiplication distribution, and solving for a variable by getting the variable alone on one side of the equation. She struggled a lot at the start remembering the sequence of steps to solve the problems-by the end she was working a lot quicker. She is a fast learner but having more regular practice throughout the week would be helpful-either studying or working on practice problems. At the end of the session we briefly reviewed her study guide for her science test this Tuesday. Her mom studied science in school and said she would continue to review with her throughout the week."
