Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we covered three discrete distributions: binomial, multinomial, and hypergeometric. In addition, to working out example problems, I helped to show how the distributions are related (e.g., when only two categories, the multinomial simplifies to binomial). I offered suggestions on how to start a problem and what to watch out for when taking an exam. She is a great student. She is clearly very smart. I felt that I was able to be of assistance. Because she has a weekly quiz and homework, she plans on contacting me to schedule future online sessions."
"The student and I went over how to compare and interpret box plots today to clear up some of her confusion on that skill. We also worked ahead a little, looking at standard deviation as a unit of distance measurement from the mean, and introducing z-scores."
"The student and I went over some elementary statistics concepts: box plots, descriptive statistics (quartiles, median, mean, variance, range, etc.), the normal distribution, and sample calculations. We went over previous quizzes and certain techniques on the calculator. The student isn't really struggling yet, but wants to make sure he is on top of the early material before it gets more difficult. He was very positive and confident with the material. We talked a little about test taking strategies, but didn't go into it too much. No extra practice. His scores are pretty good right now. No concerns. I feel confident in his ability with the material thus far."
"The student and I worked on a few homework assignments during our session. The main topics we covered were z-scores, regressions, and scatter plots. A big component to the topics involved reading and interpreting graphs. Overall, it was a great session."
"The student and I worked on her practice test for her upcoming exam. We focused on how to interpret graphs from tables and used strategies for quartile and percentile identification. We will be meeting again this weekend."
"The student and I worked on some statistics. It seems like he's got a solid handle on many of the basics, so I'm working to clarify some difficult things and assist on the exact calculation functions he's expected to master. Things are going well."
