Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has his final exam in a few days. Today we went over one of his previous exams and reviewed his mistakes on it. We then covered some of the concepts that he expressed concern about from the content on that first test. For the next session, we will be doing a similar progression with the second test and its material. After that, we will review recently covered content."
"Today we reviewed for the student's math test on areas of rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, kites, and polygons. We started the session by reviewing the concepts behind the area formulas and then continued with practice problems from the textbook. The student understood the basic concepts, and we worked on completing the problems in the most efficient way. I taught her to implement the following strategy: 1. identify the shape, 2. section it into familiar shapes if needed (triangles and rectangles), 3. find the areas of the sections, 4. add the sections together, and 5. subtract any holes. We also made a study guide so that she can practice the strategy more before the test."
"The student completed her Spanish curriculum for the year this session! We worked on one unit, where she was able to score A's on, and then she completed a unit test and the final semester test, both of which she also scored A's on (in multiple choice, pending short answer grades). Her final grade (pending a few items to be graded) is an 87%, much higher than when we started tutoring. I'm very pleased with her perseverance and end grade, and she expressed the same."
"The student continued reviewing the study material of the chapter 10 from the textbook that he currently uses at school. He practiced the use of the formal (usted) command verbal form and its plural (ustedes). He did some exercises and practiced reading and comprehension."
"Today the student worked on his final project for Spanish class. For his project, he had to narrate a cartoon using the preterit and imperfect tenses. He also had to give an introduction to the presentation in the present tense."
"Today we spent most of the session on math state assessment practice and a sample 4th grade test in Spanish. She did very well. We will finish that test during our session this Wednesday and go over test-taking strategies for her upcoming state assessment test."
