Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on combining like terms (including while using fractions and mixed numbers) to solve simple equations and then practiced fluency activities with an English homework assignment."
"Today was our first session so we went over tactics on how to be more organized. Since his school uses iPads, we went through the calendar and added in future assignments. We then went through each subject and talked about what he thought his strengths and weaknesses were. We focused mostly on Math and Spanish. In math we went through a recent test that he did poorly on and corrected a few of the questions. He seemed to know how to do all the work. He says he feels comfortable with the current material. In Spanish, we just went through his vocabulary and made flashcards for his words. It was a very positive session and I feel comfortable with the student moving forward."
"The student and I worked on her grammar--semicolons and proper nouns. We also did a lot of math practice. We worked a lot on measurement."
"During today's session, the student and I reviewed what types of simple summary statistics are used by statisticians (mean, standard deviation, correlation, and the line of best fit). He is doing a great job at understanding the material and learns very quickly. We went through his homework assignment, which was an Excel based exercise. He was very knowledgeable about how to use Excel, so I taught him some additional tricks to add to his repertoire. His teacher definitely provides a lot of practice, and I will try to add in some extra examples to help him solidly understand the concepts taught in class. He has a great personality and is motivated. It is great working with him!"
"Last night I gave the student a small lecture on what the mean, median, and mode are conceptually. I talked about how these descriptive stats relate the normal distribution and z scores. We also talked about her assignment 1 questions and what exactly the professor is looking for when he asks her to write about descriptive stats (i.e.. no analysis is needed just descriptions of the data). We will be meeting again today."
"The student said he had a quiz and got a 93 on the second try. This seems to be a higher grade than his peers. His class is working on confidence intervals and margins of error. We discussed these and went over some problems he had worked before we met. We also worked out one problem together."
