"The student and I did sight words and read from a book he will be tested on. We need to do more book reading. I read through it once and we acted it out. I then quizzed him on it, and he was able to answer the questions. I had him read 5 pages from the book, and he knew 80%-90% of the words."
"The students worked on the computer first with following along reading a story. The first student would read the story and then be instructed to play the game and hear the part he just read. He was reading well. He could recall some of his sight words he was practicing before. Both students ended with playing a game with the flashcards to recognize words quickly. He also does great with this game and has fun doing it."
"We focused this session on writing based on reading comprehension. The student really likes to read. He has a vivid imagination, so I let him draw out and describe what he was imagining based on the story, and then wording and writing it out. We also read a few of his favorite books and I made up writing prompts from that so that he would be more interested. Overall, he is above the standard reading and writing levels for his age; he just needs a bit more practice so he gets more used to writing."
"The student has greatly improved. She is doing a great job with reading and paying close attention to her vocal. When given direction, she implements exactly what is being asked immediately. She's a great student."
"Today I worked with the student on worksheets that he was provided by his Montessori teacher. His parents wanted the session to concentrate on this material since it was due this coming week after the Thanksgiving holiday. He was able to sustain attention for the majority of the session with a few breaks where he shared with me books he wanted to look through. We are working on tracing and writing out 2-3 word phrases. Additionally, we also were able to work on some mathematical problems as they were a part of his workbook. He is still learning to write all his numbers. I will continue working with him in identifying sounds and learning how to string them together and identify 2-3 word phrases."
"Today's session followed a similar format as our previous sessions. We started by warming up with letter tracing on the iPad and then continued to work on handwriting, specifically letter formation and spacing. We practiced the student's sight words by reviewing flashcards and playing our sight word jumping game. We also continued practicing his addition and subtraction skills using a number line and math manipulatives."
