Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed two practice essays, which we discussed and critiqued. I assigned a full practice test for homework."
"I gave the student a vocab test and assigned more homework. We spent the rest of the session going over last week's homework (math, reading, writing, and essay) in depth. We went over the answers and looked at why the right answers were right."
"This session we looked at a cross-section of questions from the assessment, focusing in particular on grammar and math since most of the last session was spent on critical reading and writing. Grammar review is going to be very important in preparing the student for the test. We'll be continuing to work on this next session. We also spent time working on some test problems from the math section. His content knowledge seems very good in this area, so we'll be working on test-taking strategies for this section of the test. Based on his demonstrated strengths in critical reading and writing, I plan on spending the next couple of sessions focusing on grammar and math."
"Today the student and I went over a practice SAT math section. She did quite well, missing about 5 out of 20 questions, but the student does perform better on the ACT where the questions are more straightforward. We also spent an hour today completing a practice ACT math section. I will email over the practice test and she must complete the remaining math questions for homework and review explanations to any questions she misses."
"Today the student and I went over half of his diagnostic Math test, covering topics from piece-wise functions, to solving systems of equations, to interpreting graphs, etc. Next week, we will finish going over his diagnostic test and begin going over topics with practice problems."
"Today the student and I went over her most recent practice test. She scored a 1420 overall, which puts her in a very good position to score highly on the real SAT . We identified her problem areas in each section and ways to avoid them in the future. In the math section, she knows all the material but makes small mistakes that cause her to get the question wrong. In reading, she has a hard time with command of evidence questions. In the writing section, she struggles with the more difficult questions, but that will happen less the more she familiarizes herself with the grammar that is most commonly tested. Overall, she is doing really well and knows how to efficiently practice on her own. I look forward to meeting with her again and to see how much she progresses!"
