Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session, we worked to finish the study guides and review for Ch 32 and 33 in History. He had studied all week and only needed to work on a few points toward the end of Ch 33. I asked him to work on reviewing through the online quizzes and to listen to those sections as well on his device. He will email me to set up the next session for this week."
"I covered the difference between indentured servants and slaves and the comparison and contrast of their voyages to the New World. The conditions were treacherous and awful for both but the slaves were beaten and forced to perform whereas the indentured servants were treated better."
"The student completed her ancient history project during the session and she went home to prepare her PowerPoint slides."
"For math, we covered inequalities and graphing complex functions with inequalities. We went over the math homework, using the whiteboard and explaining each problem. Since the student finished the homework in a timely manner, we covered topics not yet reached in class, namely absolute value graphs and piecewise functions. Using the whiteboard guarantees that he is able to visualize my explanations. For chemistry, we covered the naming of acids. The current unit is on nomenclature, so the class has not gone to levels of extreme sophistication yet. I warned him that this is by far the easiest section of the class, and to make sure not to fall behind when the teacher actually covers topics requiring problem solving."
"During today's tutorial, we reviewed the assigned math homework and reviewed pertinent concepts in algebra. The student completed all the homework. He did well with the homework that covered concepts from the previous tutorial. The comprehensive math diagnostic indicated that we should focus on algebra and geometry. After going over the missed questions on the diagnostic, we covered factoring algebraic expressions, foil, quadratic equations, simultaneous equations, and word problems, with a focus on rates. We introduced a variety of ways to solve questions, including setting up equations and using proportions."
"Most of today was spent working through a geometry diagnostic test. He was able to get about half of the problems right on his own the first time through. I also went over the basics of trigonometry today, so he can begin to get comfortable with that. For chemistry we just reviewed some of the stuff from last session to help solidify that material."
