Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over word problems and special triangles and various geometric shapes. The student was not struggling, seemed very bright, and just needed a bit of direction. We did try to do some verbal. We will continue working on her vocabulary. In a few weeks, we will revisit verbal things to see how she is progressing with an expanded vocabulary. She is going to practice more problems for our next session."
"We began this session with a round of diagnostic questions. We ended up working on some functions/sequences questions. I assigned several sequence/series questions to the student for the next session. We then worked through number property problems, of which I assigned 11-20. I also assigned the first 23 or so data interpretation problems. We also worked on text completions, of which I assigned 30-40 more."
"The student took a full length practice test and was disappointed in how she did, but recognized that after refreshing her memory of math concepts and working on vocabulary, she should be able to quickly improve her score. We discussed strategies to approach building her vocabulary. We then began to review basic math concepts, including fractions, percents, exponents, and radicals. The student grasped concepts very quickly and demonstrated an ability to do practice problems after learning concepts."
"We started by going over an essay the student wrote since our last meeting. She needs to work most on the structure of her argument. We talked about strategies for strengthening that. In the second hour of the session, we went over vocab questions. I assigned another essay for homework for next time."
"We started on more GRE math word problems, converting words to equations. We also looked at strategies for working on this type of question. Then we discussed the writing part of the GRE before moving into the verbal section. We focused on the vocab questions but also discussed some reading comprehension. I left the student with more practice problems on sentence equivalence."
"We went over problems with three word blanks. We focused on the strategies of mentally anticipating the answers and being sure to go over all possible answer choices (i.e., make sure we are picking the best option)."
