Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student received new vocabulary words, so we made flash cards and reviewed them until they were memorized. As part of our weeks-long preparation for the final, cumulative exam, we revisited another chapter from 7th grade. With this chapter, he had remembered most of that chapter's vocabulary words, so reviewing the words seemed unnecessary. He instead completed writing exercises from that older chapter, and his ability to form sentences has improved significantly. Previously, he would slowly and cautiously guess at every single word in a sentence. Now, he will quickly say an entire sentence before looking to me for approval."
"The student and I worked out of a chapter from her literature "Las Adventures de Alejandro." We completed oral and written exercises and worked on her speaking by forming sentences with her vocabulary words. We began preparation for her final with oral speaking consisting of a conversation between two people for six minutes."
"It was our first session so we spent some time getting to know each other. I asked the student questions to find out what his learning style is. I also assessed his Spanish vocabulary and conjugation skills to find out his level of comfort with the material. We set him up an account online to practice flashcards in order to strengthen his vocabulary. Finally, we made goals for practicing the flashcards so he can review for his final exam next week."
"This session the student and I reviewed how to conjugate verbs in the past tense using etre. I gave her a link to an article to look at, as well as a picture to help her remember the verbs that use etre. We then spent most of the session practicing conjugating reflexive verbs using the correct reflexive pronoun, ensuring that the gender and number were aligned. The student picked this up very quickly and by the end of the session could correct her own mistakes without me having to point them out. I noticed a lot of progress in this area, and she seemed a lot more confident in her abilities this session."
"Once again, the student is exceeding my expectations. We went over how to tell time and she proved through her knowledge that she has been studying this last week. We then began a two part lesson over food, how to order it and how to measure it. She is very excited about this lesson because she loves food. As we move forward, I will be sure to incorporate her love for food into our lessons, so she will stay this engaged. I look forward to next week!"
"We covered a lot of material today. Our memorization/dictation exercises are getting easier for the student. He recited all samples correctly, and I left the student with a sheet for additional review."
