Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I have been focusing on math and science. She has improved her science score 4 points since her original and is making great progress!"
"We finished going over her practice exam. Then we practiced finding the equation of a circle, finding angle measures, and the Pythagorean Theorem."
"The student and I are continuing to work on each section of the assessment. In between sections, however, we had a great discussion about both tests. She performs very well in the writing section because her school has heavily emphasized grammar. She does well in the reading section. In math we have worked on using different avenues to answer problems such as filling in answer choices, and converting variables to numbers."
"The student and I spent a lot of time today on math - he is strong on algebra, but he wanted to linger on slope questions, so we went through a few practice tests. We will continue to focus on those next week, though he seemed to have a better understanding of the concept after today. We then reviewed vocab and made a plan for him to return to seriously studying an online vocabulary list. He recognizes words often but can have trouble fully defining some words, so it will just require some legwork on his part to make sure he is fully prepared."
"The student and I spent the lesson going over math and verbal sections of a practice state assessment test. She did very well on the synonym questions and on the less wordy math questions, but struggled a bit with the analogy questions and with the math word problems. With a bit of effort, she should be able to improve significantly."
"The student and I spent this session working on essays and briefly the analogy section. For the essays, we looked at a piece he had written in between our sessions. He did a good job taking a strong side and making his examples clearly support his evidence. We worked on creating better transitions between paragraphs. We then started our work on the analogy section of the exam, introducing a couple of the different analogy types."
