Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed the English and reading sections, since she needs to cover rhetoric skills and her ability to dissect social sciences and science passages."
"The student practiced a full science portion, one English passage as well as 30 questions from a math portion today. We reviewed common math formulas and strategies as well."
"We reviewed the critical reading section of a practice assessment. The student's score on this section was approximately 120 points better than on his actual assessment he took previously."
"The student and I finished the verbal reasoning, writing and language, and math no-calculator sections of the SAT practice test. We also completed the majority of the math calculator section. For the verbal section, we focused on the function of a sentence or paragraph, vocabulary, supporting evidence, inferences, and analyzing data. For writing, we worked on grammar, punctuation, and revising content. He has improved significantly in those two sections. For math, we worked on squares and square roots, solving quadratic equations by factoring, and completing the square, interest rates, proportions, trigonometry, word problems involving variables, graphing, statistics, absolute value inequalities, and unit conversions."
"The student and I focused on ACT reading. We worked through several natural science, social science, and fictional prose passages. He had some trouble with detail retention, particularly, so we focused on close reading and limited note taking. He did particularly well with questions related to author's argument and passage development. I assigned an essay to be completed before our next session."
"The student and I focused on all three sections today and went over the different grammatical errors found in the sentences and passages. In addition, other math concepts were glossed over, like elimination techniques, in order to maximize time efficiency on the exam. The strongest point seemed to be reading comprehension, and there has been some improvement in sentence correction problems and math."
