Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we spent the first hour going over many permutation/combination problems, and the second hour doing geometry problems (sectors and inscribed circles types of problems)."
"Today we did a bunch of vocabulary-building sentence completion questions. The student had a great attitude toward the material, as usual. She has some practice tests to work on, as well as some vocabulary practice materials to review. The biggest win from the session is that she is doing a great job remembering vocabulary that we covered in our previous sessions. The student's biggest challenge with verbal questions continues to be her unfamiliarity with some of the vocabulary, but I think she is getting better at using what she does know effectively. Plus, she is definitely learning new words all the time. We went over a few strategies, including coming up with synonyms for word options, as well as completing a sentence in your own words before looking through the answer choices."
"We focused on the Math section - we went through the student's diagnostic test and also covered some questions in the GRE practice book. Additionally, we briefly addressed study and test strategies. Overall, it was a great session."
"We planned to work on both math and essays, but the student felt the math was going well enough that we stuck with that. We did sections of geometry and data analysis, and some direct instruction on permutations and combinations and the normal curve. She will write essays for us to review in our next session."
"We practiced mostly reading comprehension and some text completion. We did several questions from a difficult passage by Newman, which the student struggled with at first, but after tackling a few questions, she had a good handle on the passage and answered several correctly. We went over one-answer vocab questions, which were more difficult than the two-answer questions we'd covered in a previous section, because there are fewer clues for ruling things out. As we go over vocab words, she's writing down the words she doesn't know in order to create a vocab study list."
"We practiced word problems and complex fractions. The student is progressing in both areas. For our next session, we will continue to practice word problems and then begin work on reading comprehension."
