Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I finished working on integration by parts. We looked at a very challenging problem that dealt with inverses of functions and the integration by parts method. At the end, we began working on trigonometric integrals and talked about the strategies involved in their evaluation."
"Today we worked on the Reading section of the ACT. We went through strategy and looked at time management, question order, and decision-making processes. The student took three mini-quizzes and improved his score each time. He took one full-length reading test. While the score was on the lower end, he was able to finish on time and felt comfortable with the new methods he learned. For homework I recommend looking at the test again and taking another practice test. There is another ACT book of practice questions I recommend purchasing--he has the title of the book on his phone. With more practice using the methods he will grow more comfortable and increase his score."
"Worked on homework assignment while modeling skills to focus the student's efforts. He needs to focus from micro to macro. I also advised him to categorize things first then support with details. For next session, he is to work on ELA writing and a quiz that was assigned. "
"During our last session, the student and I reviewed her performance on the two diagnostics. Her performance has improved substantially (from about 50% correct to about 75% correct). We reiterated the importance of avoiding algebra when possible and re-reading the question when solving it before selecting an answer. Of the questions she missed on the diagnostics, half were due to minor errors as opposed to not knowing how to set up the question. Finally, we reviewed permutations/combinations and probability. She seemed to get the hang of knowing the difference between permutations/combinations. Homework will include some more diagnostics (taken without distractions), and she may schedule more sessions if she does not yet feel ready to take the test."
"The student is doing very well. We are going over her GED diagnostic test and looking at which answers she chose and why. We are also looking at the correct answers and trying to analyze why they are correct. I have also sent her some complex reading passages and she answered them perfectly. She is very bright. With more practice and confidence, I believe she will do extremely well on her exam. She is a pleasure to work with."
"Today, we covered material from the student's Algebra 2 review. We covered the following topics: inverse functions, transforming graphs, logarithmic functions and natural logs, elimination with 3 variables, and matrices. He understood the concepts well and asked for detailed step by step instructions. I provided him with a video explaining how to use Gauss-Jordan to solve a system of equations, and I felt that would be beneficial and save him time. We will be meeting again next week to review for another one of his exams."
