Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered climate change and air pollution. We went over the clean air act, CFC's, greenhouse gases, ozone, smog and other pollutants. The student's teacher doesn't provide many study materials so we covered the PowerPoints from class and I quizzed her on the material. We will be meeting again in two weeks."
"We went over her new notes and quiz on electric fields. We went over how to determine the electric field a distance away from a point source, and also given the force on a given charge. We went through different levels of questions from the textbook, starting with one source, then moving up to multiple sources, and finally finding the acceleration of an electron through two charged plates. She is doing well with these new concepts and with the algebra."
"The student and I worked on earth sciences. We went over information pertaining to galaxies as well as the phases of the moon. We finished our session with a review of chemistry topics that we went over in our first session."
"We worked on the student's current lab regarding osmosis and water potential. We reviewed hyper-, hypo- and isotonic. We discussed cell membrane structure and function including lipid bilayer, integral and peripheral membrane proteins, and passive and active transport. We then discussed plant structure and different types of plants and their adaptations for living on land."
"We continued our discussion of protein characteristics to prepare the student for his upcoming exam during this session. We talked about the details of sickle cell anemia and how small changes in typical protein characteristics lead to the disease. We spent the rest of the session discussing laboratory techniques used to separate and purify proteins based on their physical characteristics. Overall he left with a better understanding of the key concepts and more confidence going into this exam."
"We covered endocytosis, exocytosis, diffusion and types of transporters. The student's attitude towards the material was very positive and was very receptive to learn. He struggled a bit with some of the definitions, so we covered the ones he had trouble with. From the way he was able to answer and reason out certain questions, I expect him to perform very well in this class."
