Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a final exam coming up in this course, so she is wanting to go over each chapter that will be covered on the test. The chapter we went over concerned Byzantine art. I was able to access a companion to her class textbook and she shared a study guide for that specific chapter with me. We discussed important terminology and possible essay questions. She seemed a little unsure about a few of the terms, so I tried to supply good definitions and easy ways to remember the information. All in all, a very good first session!"
"We continued reviewing key events, causes, effects, and other important things for the test. She did much better on the more recent material than the older material. I also sent her some more practice multiple choice questions if she would like to use them, as well as brief outlines for most of the chapters she is being tested on."
"The student was great during this session, he was eager to share his knowledge! We covered Period 2 AP US History and did a bit of review from the last session. I also shared some worksheets with him that he can use to practice thesis writing. We can go over these together later if he'd like. Next time, we will work on Period 3 and spend some time recapping Period 1."
"Today, we continued through the life during the Great Depression activity. We discussed such things as the Dust Bowl, Hobos, Okies, and migrant work. During the activity, the student also learned the different symbols used by Hobos and how to figure out what they meant. After the activity, we talked about the different acts and programs that FDR made during his New Deal."
"Tonight the student and I began looking at and using primary sources. Her teacher provided her with guiding questions that we used, and we were able to get through about half of them. I noticed increased confidence on her part with every question and reading we tackled."
"We focused on issues that the colonies had in common with Britain before the Revolution and issues that drove them apart. She was struggling most with intro and concluding paragraphs to essays, which we will work on. She is generally curious and interested."
