Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I assisted the student with his vocabulary, spelling, math, and social studies. His math consisted of multiplying decimals. We worked through some of the problems together; after this he started doing much better on his multiplication. I quizzed him on his language arts vocabulary and his social studies vocabulary and checked his spelling worksheet."
"The first student had finished her persuasive essay on why smoking should be illegal. We went through and made edits. She corrected her spelling, made sentences more clear, and fixed syntax. She also took a spelling quiz that she did very well on. She had been practicing the spelling list in her 4th grade spelling book. The second student worked from the 5th grade language arts book. We discussed proper and common nouns and identified several of each type around the room. He did sentence completion activities for practice."
"We spent this session working on a reading practice assessment. We practiced using context clues to find what the words mean. She was very motivated to see a practice assessment, since she was to begin the assessment tomorrow morning. I left the practice assessment with her to complete a writing question before our next meeting. I did not see any grades."
"For our session today, the student and I studied her history materials and the corresponding questions. We reviewed previous chapters in anticipation for an upcoming test including material on the Mongol empire, Chinese influence on Vietnam, Korea and Japan, and Japanese isolationism. We also talked about world trade, and composed a hypothetical outline that discussed the differences between trade in the Early Modern period and trade in the Classical era."
"The student and I reviewed the study packet for the chapter on thermochemistry. For the portion that was filled in by him from his notes in class, I had him explain it to me from his understanding. I then explained it using real world examples to reiterate the information. For the sections that were left blank (due to his missing class), I gave him a lesson on those topics he was still confused about. I then had him do some practice questions from the book to ensure he was able to retain the information."
"The student and I first worked on finishing her Geometry special project. We found a definition and source that applied to the legal law of proportionality, and the student came up with another example problem to demonstrate proportionality. We then worked on her History assignment, which covered the Cold War."
