Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the other tutors and I sat down with the student and worked out a schedule and plan for tutoring the rest of the week. The goal is to work on reading comprehension and applying the skill to different subjects. We will continue to stress leaning and understanding this skill in our sessions this week."
"We worked on reading comprehension and answering questions about the passage. The student also worked on finding the theme of various paragraphs and he also identified the main idea on stories and then came up with an appropriate title."
"We worked today with math. I had brought along two math books from home. We worked on positive and negative numbers. The student showed me some apps on his tablet for educational games. They included lots of math problems that the student had to answer very quickly. It is an excellent learning tool."
"We began the session reviewing adding large decimals, subtracting 3 digit numbers with regrouping, simplifying fractions, multiplication facts of 3, and 3 digit addition. I then introduced the student to isosceles, equilateral, scalene and right triangles and we completed an activity. We also review coordinates and how to plot them on a grid. We then read from a story and discussed vocabulary and characters."
"Today was our first session and it went really well! The student has a great grasp of basic French words and learned some new ones as well. We went over her flashcards and workbooks that she was using with her previous tutor. She likes the idea of using games to learn more French then vocabulary drills. Next week I will bring some games using basic verbs so she can start to use her vocabulary skills."
"We continued with the student's summer workbook covering writing, reading and math topics. In math we reviewed how to multiply numbers with decimals. In writing we reviewed all of the parts of a sentence including verbs, adjectives, adverbs, nouns, and pronouns. In reading, we read through a geography text and the student answered the corresponding questions for it."
