Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered reactions of enols and enolates. The student continues to be a great student to work with, and she asks good questions. We will cover the rest of the unit as well as go over a practice exam tomorrow."
"We covered spectroscopy questions today. We went through the process of identifying unknown structure from IR, MS, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR data. The student was confused about the multiplicity of signal in 1H NMR. She wasn't able to interpret 1H NMR and come up with the correct structure. We discussed the steps in details for solving these problems. By the end of the session, the student was able to determine the multiplicity and use the correct approach in finding the structure. The student was left with a problem set to practice similar questions."
"We covered the entire chapter on amines and nomenclature of multiple functional groups. The student had a good attitude toward the material. I included study skills to help her efficiently prepare for the final."
"We covered the first two chapters for his organic chemistry course. This included topics including VSEPR models, molecular orbitals, bond angles, acid/base chemistry, etc. I included some different approaches to problems that may help address the problems better."
"We covered the following: Selectively protecting amino groups and related synthesis problems. More ester reactions, hard and soft nucleophiles. Organolithium vs Grignard vs cuprate vs enolates. Ketals vs imine vs enamine, and the mechanisms similarities. Spotting imines and enamines in structures. Synthesis with enamines and imines."
"We covered types of isomers, naming alkanes and branched alkanes, dash wedge structures, and the definition of acids and bases. We will continue the lesson on acids and bases after the student reads Chapter 3."
