Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test on photosynthesis so we went over the review packet provided by his teacher. He was able to answer all the questions on the packet with almost no help from me and he has an excellent grasp of all the information in the chapter. I brought some additional review questions which he answered with little difficulty. We also went over his paper chromatography lab and photosynthesis lab. He was concerned about calculating Rf values in his paper chromatography lab because he didn't see an orange band and was unsure why. I explained that some times the chromatography doesn't run long enough to see all the bands. They only let it run for 15 minute; if they had left it for 20 or 30 they would probably have seen the last band."
"The topics we covered focused on the chapter dealing with Entropy, Gibbs free energy and Equilibrium with respect to entropy. We tackled each aspect of the chapter by solving sample questions in hope that the student can be well prepared for her next mid-term and subsequently her finals come the end of the semester."
"The student had a couple problems regarding current and magnetic field, but only about how the right hand rule applied to those situations. She picked up the fundamentals very quickly and was able to get a handle on the problems in short order. I combined this session with a previous short session to make up the total time."
"The student just had some quick questions about her biology homework about osmotic pressure, isotonic, hypotonic and hypertonic solutions, and what happens to a cell when it is put into those types of solutions. It was a great session, and her questions were sufficiently answered. She seemed like a very nice person."
"This was my first session with the student. We began the session by discussing her goals and study habits. We went over the first two chapters in her book as a review and I helped her visualize the concepts she was learning before she took a quiz. The visualization seems to tremendously help her grasp the concepts. She agreed to review the next few chapters and prepare questions for our next session"
"Today I lectured on Ch.20 which was about unifying concepts of animal structure and function. I have been lecturing ahead of schedule so that the lecture the student receives from her professor will reinforce the foundational knowledge I present to her. I took notes as I lectured so that she has the most important information summarized in a condensed form. The student felt the session was very helpful. We will meet next week, and again the day before her test. Her test (the second one this semester) will be the first test since our tutoring sessions began, so we are both excited about her performance with the recent addition of my support."
