Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on gaining a better understanding of simple harmonic motion and continued with wave motion and wave mechanics. As usual, the student was engaged with the work."
"The student has a test on Monday, so we made sure he was able to solve wave-related problems. There were some challenging problems we looked over together. He understands most of the concepts, and for the problems that stumped him, we rearranged the equations algebraically to arrive at the answers. He has improved dramatically in physics."
"The student has a test on photosynthesis on Friday. We went over the chapter in his book, which he had already read so he had a pretty good grasp on the content. He needed a little guidance about how photosystem II and I work, so we watched a quick video that illustrates how the photosystems harvest photons and electrons to power the synthesis of ATP and NADPH. We went over C4 and CAM plants for the AP exam, even though he will not be tested on them Friday. We went over the review questions at the end of the chapter and discussed the student's lab on respiration of germinating plants."
"We reviewed topics for the student's quiz tomorrow by going over her homework as well as extra practice problems from a chemistry textbook. We reviewed polyatomic ions, naming compounds with polyatomic ions, converting between moles and number of particles using Avogadro's constant, and converting between moles and mass using molecular weight."
"We reviewed transcription, the use of DNA polymerase which leads to mRNA, which binds to ribosomes. We reviewed how polypeptides lengthen and fold to make protein. We also talked about peptide bonding, ATCG amino acids (purine/pyrimidine), DNA unzipping, and okazaki fragments."
"We reviewed two questions for the student's final. The first was a question on partial pressure/equilibrium, and the second was an acid/base equilibrium question."
