Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed sentence completion and passage-based reading strategies. I further familiarized the student with online learning tools. I had the student do one of the critical reading sessions from one of the practice tests in the prep book to gauge his current proficiency in that section of the test and asked him to do 20 to 30 minutes of reading and writing flashcards until we meet again."
"We worked on math word problems online including number patterns and counting money. We also covered verbal questions including synonyms and antonyms. We played a reading comprehension game online. He has a good understanding of academic concepts."
"In this session we went over chapters 3 and 4 on the practice test book. This included combinations and permutations, complex numbers, matrices, sequences and series, data and analysis, and probability. These topics went very well for the student. He will do one of the practice tests for before our next session."
"The student and I continued to work on revising and editing questions from previously released tests. She's improving in the areas of technical writing, such as when to use apostrophes, commas, and quotations."
"We covered matrices in Algebra II. The rest of the hour was spent on biology questions. Data analysis, genetic phylogenics, and exptal design. We will focus more on interpretation of raw data next time. and continue math studies."
"Today we covered electric fields and compared it to gravitational fields. We went over what a charge is and how electric fields are formed. We also covered a few equations that help us calculate the force one charge exerts on an another as well as the force that is felt by a charge due to an electric field. She is a fast learner, and I think we covered a good amount of material in this session. For extra practice, she will be doing questions from her test prep book."
"First, the student finished up his practice SAT. I then graded it and, after assessing the essay, I gave the student a score of 1890. I was happy with the improvement, especially in the writing and math sections. I still feel that the student needs to practice for the math sections, but he is more confident and that showed as he was answering more questions. He was thrown off because of the difference in wording between the two exam questions, but he was still able to improve his math score. Overall, He improved in all sections, but he still can go higher if he wants."
"We reviewed a writing section, a verbal section, and started to review a mathematics section. The student did well on the writing section and slightly better on the mathematics section. She dramatically improved in her verbal work. She was able to eliminate incorrect answer choices and arrive at the correct answer even if she did not know the definitions of the words. Great session."
"Reviewed probability, logs/exponents, and trig functions. Completed 60 questions of math lvl 2 practice, but it did not have many difficult probability, sequence, or permutation problems, so I will show up to our next session with more practice problems in those areas."
"The student scored 86% on the Writing test I sent her. I worked with the student for an hour on each section of the SAT. Overall on the Writing section, she needed review on antecedent/pronoun agreement, passive vs. active voice, Me/I usage, and subject verb agreement (she scored about 10/12 on each section). She is very strong on the CR section and is working on her vocab with the words for the SAT."
"The student and I had a little more of a laid back session today, but he did really well. We spent the first hour doing a timed Critical Reading section and going over the minor issues he was having (mostly on questions dealing with "author tone.") We did spend some time at the end of the lesson going over general admissions information and essay tips, as he is currently writing his first drafts for college essays. He is completing two more reading sections for homework and we will go over them when we meet on Sunday."
"As it was our first session, we went over his previous scores and his goals for his future tests. He is taking the October SAT and wants some time management help. We spent today's session going over essay planning and writing. As an exercise we planned for both sides of the essay. We ran short on time so he wasn't able to complete an entire essay under normal time constraints so I am sending him one this week to work on. I'm also sending some vocabulary questions to assess where he is as well as practice sites. Finally, I recommended a book I thought would give him more vocabulary as well as essay ideas."
