Concord, NC Physical Chemistry tutoring
The student and I covered equilibrium chemistry and how to solve ICE tables. She is doing very well, and just needs to remember to write her units down. She had a pretty positive attitude with the material, and she managed to get all of her homework down and do another problem to test her previous knowledge. Overall I would say she continues to improve and I can see progress each week.

We reviewed homework problems that involved probability in a binomial distribution, conditional probability, and probability of standard scores in a normal distribution (Z scores). We went off on a bit of a tangent trying to determine if Bayes' theorem applied to one portion of the homework and ultimately decided that it didn't. Most of our work was done using Excel and a stattrek calculator for normal distribution and t distribution.

We covered techniques of solutions of first order partial differential equations with variable coefficients. We used a transformation to put the equation in new variables which reduced the equation to an ordinary differential equation in one of the new variables. Then we used the method of characteristic curves, noting that the given equation specifies the orthogonality of the directional derivative of the solution to a vector with variable coordinates, meaning that the solution function remains constant on the curves tangent to the field described by the given vector.

Today, we went over a practice exam in preparation for the student's exam tomorrow. She struggled with the math portion of the test, so we spent considerable time covering how to use each specific equation, so that she would be prepared on test day. She did a great job actually solving each equation once the equation was determined.
