Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We have been practicing communication skills, including reading, speaking, and listening with exercises that have to do with present simple and the difference between the verbs ser y estar. I will send the student more exercises for her to keep practicing."
"Today, we covered food and the relating vocabulary. The student did listening and comprehension exercises using a Spanish interactive program. He enjoyed the session. He was given extra work to write what foods he likes/ doesn't like and what he wants to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner."
"The student and I covered language that might be used in discussing social events, including but not limited to business parties, award shows, galas and different sorts of social functions. We first covered key vocabulary words, and then listened to them used in a video presentation. At the end of the lesson, he took a quiz to assess how much he had learned and retained. For homework, he is to complete Chapter 1 in a workbook, and he is to study 20 commonly used words in Spanish from a list I provided him."
"Today we first reviewed pronunciation and I noticed the student is now self correcting when he makes mistakes. Then we reviewed his numbers with a game of "98" and again, he self corrects and didn't need to use his notes. He just needs to be consistent with 15 and 50. We reviewed the essential 55 verbs with flashcards and a conjugation board game. I left him with word magnets to create sentences over the holidays with friends and family."
"We discussed the student's experience and comfort in Spanish to start off. She has a lot of experience with speaking with Spanish speakers, and she has great intuitive skill. To outline what we have to learn over the course of our time together, we wrote down and explained the function and purpose of each common verb tense. This will be a helpful resource to come back to in the future."
"We talked about words that are written the same but have a different meaning. Also, we read a page of the book The Little Prince and talked about it. We practiced the interview, wrote one, and practiced orthography with the letters b, v, and z. He is reading better every time. Now he has good pronunciation, and it is time to practice comprehension."
