Tutoring review by Zoheb in Goshen, KY
The first student worked on problems that had to do with speed and units. These sorts of problems will give her an intuition for manipulating units in problems (which will be invaluable for chemistry) and also should make some of her trickier algebra problems easier. She learns quickly, but just needs some practice to excel in algebra. Neither the second student or I know what the next topic is after graphing (which we covered pretty well on Saturday) so I introduced him to the idea of imaginary numbers. In this introduction we talked about some of the properties of exponents, and some of the properties of the modulus operation.

Tutoring review by Alfred in Goshen, KY
Solving exponential and logarithmic equations and compound and simple interest problems. The student seemed to need work with the inverse property of logarithmic and exponential equations. I reviewed this specific property for the student and broke down what the theorem was "trying to say."

Tutoring review by Rachel in Goshen, KY
Today we spent more time on systems of equations in preparation for her upcoming exams. We looked over the student's practice test from last week and she scored a 68. Her goal is an 85. We are going to spend the next 11 sessions focusing on different topics, assigning homework about that topic as well as the ones preceding it, and setting a goal of taking at least five practice tests. She has more systems of equations homework this week.

Tutoring review by Kate in Goshen, KY
We covered hyperbolas. He was very positive and willing to try when I asked him to think outside the box. I suggested doing more problems that weren't assigned and checking himself with the back of the book. He needed subtle hints to get him on the right track at first. I asked him questions until he found the answer himself.

I worked with the student on two-step equations with fractions today. He seems to understand it, so I will continue working on the same material and will also practice with him on the steps. The second student and I reviewed inequalities with multiplication and division. We are working on remembering that a coefficient of a variable implies multiplication. I will continue helping him practice. At his mother's request, we will begin moving on to negative exponents, as well.

Tutoring review by Tiffany in Goshen, KY
I wrote some practice problems for the student to work on at the end of her session based in trouble spots I'd noticed in yesterday's session and from her tests. She is a very fast worker. I keep encouraging her to double- and triple- check her work, as she tends to make minor mistakes that mean the difference between letter grades in her final scores. We will keep working in that direction and drilling certain problems.
