Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met one more time before his midterm exam. We continued to use his class study guide to go over key concepts. He remained engaged and with practice and encouragement was able to accurately complete tasks, like translate sentences using ir + infinitive. He wrote down new vocabulary. Before I left I told him to complete the study guide tasks and then go over them. Particularly challenging concepts should be developed and put up on his wall."
"We reviewed holiday terms and the imperfect tense for the student's test the following Monday. He had the holiday terms and phrases down pretty well. He has maintained a good attitude the whole time I have been working with him. Throughout the session, we kept a list of every word he had a problem with and highlighted the especially important ones. Those highlighted terms he has to use in sentences that I will read through the next time we get together."
"The student had very little to go over as far as school material. She's working on reflexive verbs in class right now, but she understands the grammar points rather well. I checked her homework and briefly went over reflexive verbs again. We then talked about possessives in Spanish and how they are used. This was just so that when her teacher covered the section in class, she will already be familiar with it. For the rest of our session, we worked on conversational skills, practicing the ability to speak with ease and fluidity. For next session, I told her I'd bring songs for us to work with and translate."
"Today we reviewed the student's worksheets on imperfect tense and her vocabulary. We did imperfect and preterite tense online worksheets I sent her together and I had her translate the paragraphs and explain why she used each tense and who she conjugated the verbs for. I quizzed her on her 70 vocab words and phrases as well. We ended the session by her telling me about her weekend in Spanish."
"We went over the conjugation to hacer more and did some quizzes online. We also practiced forming sentences with proper conjugation. In the student's class they are currently working on direct object pronouns, and he seems to understand those really well, and maybe because of that, there was a change in his attitude for the better. We also practiced vocab and focused on strategies to remember phrases, since he struggles with those more than the nouns."
"The student and I worked with her new vocabulary, translating sentences from English to Spanish with reflexive verbs, irregular and regular verbs into preterite tense. We also made flashcards for her upcoming test and she completed her homework assignment by filling out a verb chart with preterite irregular and regular verbs. She did great, but needs to study her irregulars more before her test. Her practice assignment I left for her was to finish translating her flashcards we started."
