Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I focused on integral algebra--the different forms of roots and powers and how to manipulate them in order to simplify or solve for a variable. As I've said before, she's coming along quickly despite her own frustrations with the material! Her final will be the Wednesday of next week; I think we will have one more session before then."
"The student and I spent the session reviewing for his upcoming algebra exam. We focused on solving radical equations. The student has improved at this subject very much over the last couple of weeks. We have been working on repetition and focus to ensure that the student scores well on this test. We reviewed problems from each section of the chapter and the student had no problems at all. We also discussed a study schedule for the upcoming exam."
"The student had 4 different learning targets that he needed to retest- so we did practice (10 problems) of each. He did absolutely excellently with quadratics, although I did need to explain to him conceptually what the roots are and the axis of symmetry etc. The student worked through everything really quickly and seemed to really feel confident by the end. I told him he needed to go over his learning targets that we went over before after I had left."
"The student has his common core assessment tomorrow. We reviewed questions that he was uncertain of and topics that he had questions on. He took a practice exam in class and he did well on the multiple choice, but needed more practice on the short answer parts. I was very impressed with his improvement. We went over questions that he got wrong on the practice exam and was able to correct them."
"We reviewed for math final. The final topic is radicals. I made up a few problems to work through. I will put together a review sheet tonight for the last session tomorrow. Friday is the last day of school."
"More good work. We continued with domain and range, and we added inequalities: solving and graphing them. Answers are being represented in parenthetical interval notation, with greater/less than, and with number lines."
"In this session we covered how to solve linear equations. There are several steps to these problems, and he was struggling with determining which steps to take and how to apply them to each individual problem. I left practice problems for him to try before our next session, and I intend to spend more time with him going over these types of problems in the next session."
"The student was looking for a little review prior to his final exam in Honors math, algebra/trigonometry. He needed particular review in graphing linear inequalities. He remembered the definition of the logarithm very well, but I showed him how to use the properties to solve or simplify equations."
"The student and I worked on transformation on graphs. She had a homework sheet that we worked on for the whole session. We talked about translation, stretching/shrinking and reflection. We also worked on coming up with an equation given the transformation of the graphs."
"We worked today to review for the student's math final. We covered algebraic conversions between linear equation forms (standard form, slope-intercept form, and point-slope form) and also reviewed parabolas."
"This was our last session before she takes her final exam. The student is very capable and knows her algebra. She continued to work on the online review site her teacher provided. She was into Chapter 7, dealing with exponents and radicals. She is a great girl and I really enjoyed working with her."
"She worked on the study guide for the final. The student is doing well on her review material. Today she had a few minor mistakes. I had her do a few extra practice problems that weren't in the packet when for extra practice."
