Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I assisted the student with his homework, which consisted of going over his science vocabulary, his English vocabulary (the words with the prefix "mega-") and a unit conversions sheet. I double-checked his work and made sure that he knew the terms that he needed to memorize."
"In today's session, we discussed essay writing. I gave the student a couple essay assignments from our session last week. He is making progress in terms of keeping with the structure and flow of a typical narrative essay. We worked on the structure of his paragraphs and areas where I felt he needed improvement. We also answered some word problems, and I taught him how to write mathematical expressions from word problems in order to solve them."
"We spent half of today's session working on science and the second half on reviewing the student's Math homework. We did a review of the material from last week's test. She seemed to have it down fairly well. Her math also has improved, other than a few simple errors the student did great. My plan for next week to establish contact with her science teacher and develop an academic plan."
"He updated me on his current grades. He needs improvement in both English and computer science. English vocabulary text was in the mid 80s, even though we reviewed a great deal last Sunday. His computer science review book arrived. We will look at it during Sunday's session. He has a grammar test and chemistry exam his preparing for. We will review more on Sunday for them. He completed a 3-minute practice talk for his English class. A bit more confidence is what we are striving for. Content knowledge very high. Also, we went over several math problems with him in preparation for example on 9/15. Continues to need bit more motivation but has a very, very busy schedule."
"He walked me through all of his classes and assignments. We discussed a plan to be proactive. He needs to see if he can sync his school calendar with his Google calendar on his phone. He also needs to find out from his teachers any major assignments that are not on the school calendar. I've also asked him to be proactive regarding including me prior to major assignments being due. I'd like to work with him on some of those assignments."
"I checked in briefly with the student - she had her identity chest done, and felt done for the day. We went over her reading response for the day's readings, and I helped her with APA formatting. We also discussed some of her upcoming projects (racial memoir for 3170, mini-essays and immigration presentation for 2010). She planned to get her second mini-essay completed by Sunday."
