"Did a bit of CR, but mostly Math. The student still has a work to do to get where she wants to be, but I think we're making progress."
"Today I did some diagnostic work with the student, so that I could see where we should focus our work. I had her complete some practice problems in both the Math and Verbal sections of the test. She indicated that her strengths were in math, so we began with that. The student demonstrated a great work ethic. She maintains focus and persistence when completing problems, and utilizes various strategies. She has a strong sense of logic and reasoning that helps her solve complex problems. In today's session, she demonstrated needs for support solving percents, factoring, and creating algebraic expressions. She was able to solve most problems, however tends to utilize time consuming methods. In verbal section, we worked on scrambled paragraphs, and logical reasoning. She will need more practice in both of these areas. She quickly incorporated my suggestions to help her solve these problems. The next few sessions will be utilized to continue with the practice exam in order to identify all areas of need so that we can begin intensive skill practice."
"Today we focused on the SAT Critical Reading section (both sentence completion and passage-based reading). We covered the types of questions that appear and strategies for answering them, and then we applied this knowledge to practice test 1 in the book. Completion of the diagnostic (using test 2 from the book) has been assigned for homework, along with reviewing the critical reading chapter in the book. We've identified smart phone apps, flashcards, free rice, SAT question of the day, and reading as regular practice options to develop their vocabulary between now and test day."
