Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent the entire time today reviewing math. Student had some trouble figuring out what they had done in class today - he had not been able to follow along because he wasn't on the right page in his book. Eventually we figured out it had been quadratic equations, so we discussed quadratic equations and how they relate to graphs. We also worked on the problem of the week, and the student says he can turn in for extra credit (which he needs). He had a lot of trouble understanding the nuances of the question, but together we figured it out."
"During this session, we reviewed division and geometric solids for his upcoming test on Tuesday. We played a long division game with raisins, which he was really enthusiastic about. He still needs some more practice with multiplication tables. We also went over drawing solids. He seemed very familiar with the properties of each solid (number of faces, corners, etc.). He was very engaged during the entire session."
"Student and I covered some review problems to make sure there are no gaps in her knowledge. We also practiced her multiplication tables by making flash cards. The student is still struggling with memorizing her multiplication tables. I feel like this is a key thing to work on, as it will make every problem she does easier, especially when she gets into long division and multiplication. She had great news this week- she moved up a math group! She is working so hard and it is really paying off. I left her with some flash cards to memorize and also a worksheet on math terms."
"We covered parabolas and circles. For both of them, we practiced writing equations in standard form and graphing equations from standard form and vice versa. The student had some trouble flipping x's and y's, but was able to sort himself out very quickly and showed a great deal of improvement after an explanation. In chemistry, we reviewed basic concepts in acids and bases, as well as neutralization reactions. The student had some trouble remembering what we did last week with a complicated titration problem, so I left that section of the book for him as homework. He seems to be doing well, overall, in both subjects!"
"Today we reviewed linear inequalities and systems of linear inequalities in preparation for her June exam. We took summary notes on the process and the student is assigned a set of problems for homework. I reiterated the importance of slowing down so that arithmetic mistakes are not made. Lastly, we set a goal to raise her homework grades and test grades in her quest to earn an 85 in the class."
"For this session we covered trigonometric identities and how to apply this to simplify expressions. We covered some practice problems to facilitate understanding."
