"We went through his homework on magnetic force and the variables in the equation. I felt that him being in Algebra 2 could hinder him from comprehending concepts that require familiarity with sine and cosine and the unit circle so I took the time to try to explain it and showed how it applied to one of the problems (sin(90)=1)."
"We covered the student's test review including finding axis of symmetry of a quadratic equation algebraically, finding turning point of a parabola, nature of roots, solving system of quadratic and linear equations graphically and using quadratic formula to find the roots of a quadratic equation."
"During this session we covered simplification of equations. It is important to remember that exponents from below will subtract from exponents from above. Also, the student had not used long division form for exponents, which is a simple process, but longer than normal. We completed that process in order to finish one of the exercises. Simplification and factorization come after this in order to reach the correct answer."
"We went over special right triangles (45/45/90, 30/60/90) and how to find the length of their sides using ratios. We went over different types of questions, including applications and word problems. We also reviewed sin/cos/tan and briefly went over cofunctions. Her test will also have volume, so I told her how you can find the volume of a figure with the same two opposite sides by multiplying the area and height. She recalled the formulas for the volumes of a cone and sphere. She is prepared for her test tomorrow and I expect her to do well!"
"The student has a quiz on Applications of Derivatives and Tables and Charts, so he wanted to review some practice problems. These problems mirror the free response problems on the AP Exam. He needed some review on what derivatives and anti-derivatives represent in real-life applications. He also needs to be careful of proper notation and showing all his work."
"For this session, the student and I focused on continuing practicing solving quadratic equations by completing the square method, as well as solving using the quadratic formula. One aspect that I was impressed with was how quickly she picked up how to solve the equations. One issue that I made known to the student was to slow down when doing her calculations which will eliminate calculation errors. She needs continuous practice to get all the concepts to stick, which I encouraged. I mentioned to her and her dad that I will give her a test based on the assessment test to gauge her improvement."
