Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session we continued our exploration of dividing polynomials by each other using long division. We focused on the series of steps necessary to finish the division problem -- making sure that he understood each step and why we use those steps in that order. By the end of this session, he was doing complex division problems by himself: a big win."
"The student did very good today, all concepts taught he immediately picked up. There was one problem that I will research and I will show him how do it next week. He is opening up more and more each week."
"The student and I went over a practice test she was working on in school today. The problems were geometry problems, which she had managed to do very well on before I got there. We then worked on some questions given to her as homework on graphs of functions and identifying linear and nonlinear graphs. The student understood the material well even though the graphs of functions was a new concept for her."
"For tonight, we really worked on the student's homework assignment. The assignment was to write a literary essay about this story called "Bleeding on the Sidewalk" which is about the loss of identity. The first two paragraphs were pretty good although I made a few modifications to help clarify some ideas. Then we worked on his second body paragraph, his counterclaim and his conclusion paragraph."
"We worked primarily on math, and social studies. We focused on extended response, and finding the area of composite shapes. We also reviewed some social studies concepts. The student has a great attitude. We worked on strategies for solving challenging problems, and also to check work."
"We worked through free response questions. We talked about test taking skills for free response questions like writing down as much information as one can to get as many points as possible. We talked about how to make up an answer for one part if you can't get it but need it to complete the next part of the question."
