Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student continues to do well. He is getting up to speed just fine. He wasn't really confused by his homework today, however I did suggest he practice more of the problems from his book. We also went over the last method for solving for quadratics: completing the square. He seems to understand the steps, but he will need to practice using the method to memorize it."
"Today the student and I did some difficult complete factoring practice and then tackled a bunch of bonus word problems. He's doing much better on a lot of this. I'm trying to sneak them into more of our practice problems so he gains fluency. His test is early next week."
"The student and I went over the math practice questions found on the trooper website. She's doing great with the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We spent the most time on fractions, including converting them from mixed fractions to improper fractions, adding and subtracting, and multiply and dividing. We wrote out the steps to follow for each type of question, and this seemed to really help. We also spent a bit of time going over percentages and how to convert between percentages and decimals. Finally, we went over how to convert between the radius and diameter of a circle."
"The student has finished his lessons for the year, and is now focused on preparing for the assessment. For today's session, I had the student take the practice test to identify some areas for us to focus on. We didn't get to complete the practice, so will do that at our next session. I noted that radicals will need to be reviewed again."
"In today's session we completed a homework assignment the student was assigned. The homework involved transforming exponential equations from their parent function. Then, we completed a packet for extra credit. The packet involved all different concepts he has learned throughout the year. The student did well on both assignments and seemed to have a good understanding of the material."
"Today I introduced the quadratic formula. The student has been working incrementally towards it in his math class and has a good understanding of the concept. During the second half of our session, we reviewed for an upcoming history test. The student then completed a timeline of the conditions that led to World War I."
