"I have asked him to show me a copy of the quiz he just took over order of operations. We practiced his multiplication skills. He had the squares ready for me. I think he's in the groove again, and I think they will come easier this year. He worked on his homework over distributive property with variables. He was not able to understand what he wrote in his notes, so I re-taught him the concept. He caught on quickly, and I suggested to him to read over his homework several times tomorrow before his quiz."
"I helped both students review their homework assignments. Both did excellently on dividing fractions and mixed numbers. We may need more practice with dividing decimals and determining where to place the decimal point. For this session, we worked on rewriting multiplication as exponents and vice versa, rules for multiplying/dividing/powers of exponents, and order of operations (parentheses, exponents, multiplication/division, addition/subtraction with positive and negative rational numbers)."
"I helped her complete an assignment over graphing quadratic functions. She seemed to understand the concept and completed the homework with few mistakes. She did struggle with the word problem. Once I explained how to do it, she was able to complete it."
"I helped her doing her homework on graphs of quadratic equations. She has the basic notions with the operations (+,-,*,/,...), but she didn't understand the theory of the quadratic equations and the steps for graphing the equations, and today she did! She got it very well. I didn't leave her any extra practice because she did 12 exercises today, and she told me that her teacher gives her several exercises everyday; I think this is enough if she only does this. Good job for today!"
"I helped him understand his online homework which was basically drilling him in what a function was, as well as how to determine domain and range. His math skills are weak and he lacks confidence, so my goal is to provide immediate feedback, reassurance, and explanations while he drills on these basic concepts."
"I helped him, who is now in high school, with both algebra and biology. In algebra, we reviewed coordinate geometry so that he would be prepared for his next class. In particular, we reviewed the concepts of the equation of a straight line, slope, and intercept. In biology, he was having difficulty with the concept of macromolecules. I helped him understand atoms, molecules, small and large molecules, and macromolecules."
