Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I assisted the student with her math homework on multiplying decimals. She has a very good foundation with her multiplication facts and does a good job of placing the decimal correctly in her answer. She still needed to complete six more questions for her assignment."
"I covered basic geometric proofs with the student. We also covered basic rules that can be applied to geometric proofs. The student was having trouble in knowing which rules to apply, and how to use them to write proofs. Geometry is one of the first mathematical course that requires critical and abstract thinking, so I expected the student to have trouble with these concepts. We practiced several problems, and I asked the student to make flashcards of the rules for next week's session. I worked with the other student on basic pattern recognition. We went over how to build tables and graphs based on word problems, and to determine if there is a pattern present. The student did very well in this area, and it was clear that he had an good understanding of the material."
"I covered decimal addition and subtraction. The student needed reinforcement of the rules and practices. Student had great attitude and good attention. Student got 100 on the previous test, resulting from tutoring. "
"I covered related rates and implicit differentiation. I helped the student work through number of different problems to help him gain an understanding of different geometric problem solving techniques and how to model real-world problems."
"I covered the following concepts during the session: Math: Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing Integers. The student struggled a bit with subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers. He wasn't sure what the steps are in subtracting. I showed him how to change the subtraction sign to addition and change the second number to the opposite sign then add. Once he figured it out, he was able to do some problems independently. He also understood the rules of multiplying and dividing integers fairly quickly. In addition, we did some review problems that contained word problems. I emphasized doing each step of the word problem one at a time. He will continue to work in his textbook on his own and at school."
"I created and gave him a test to work on from Chapter 12.1-12.4. He has a midterm on chapters 12-13 so I am teaching him the theory behind all the topics and explaining methods to solving problems he missed on the practice test. I'm going to make another test on missed problems and sections not covered yet."
