Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did very well today. He worked through his sight words, and is making progress in learning to blend his words to make the appropriate sounds. He learned more vowel sounds, such as long i and short i. He caught on quite quickly and did a great job picking the correct picture and writing in the missing letters. He has great penmanship. In math, we continued working with money. He knows pennies, and that they are one cent, and is able to make the cent sign without hesitation. He can also accurately identify nickels and dimes. I am working on helping him make the connection of the value of each. He is making great progress."
"The student had homework in both math and reading. In the math, I supervised her addition problems on her homework sheet. Then, on the dry board, I had her write some of the problems vertically as well, as required by her teachers. She was accurate with each one. In reading, she had to write two sentences using words from her spelling word list. I supervised her as she did this. Then, she read the prescribed pages from her reading book. She did an excellent job."
"The student had homework today. We went over using metaphors and translating math expressions. He did well with both. We finished reviewing his homework in 30 minutes. I gave him a little help for some problems. Afterward, we did reading comprehension. His reading is a little better. Some words were difficult for him and took a little while to pronounce. I did not have to remind him to slow down too much."
"The student had no problem doing his two reading worksheets. However, he did have two today, so by the time he got to the second one, he became more anxious and rushed through it. He only got a couple of answers wrong on the first try, but once we went back and looked at the passage, he got the correct answers easily. The math worksheet we spent the second half of the session on was rounding to the hundreds and tens. He said he didn't really remember it from class, so we went over it again. He seemed to get the hang of it by the time we finished the front of the sheet - but I think he will need some more practice to fully understand it. Next week, we will log in to his online typing exercises provided by his teacher and continue practicing speed math."
"The student had struggled a bit with some of the homework I assigned in our last session. We went over this, practicing writing algebraic equations from word problems, and efficiently using long division to solve. Once he was completing problems quickly and correctly on his own, we moved on to the distributive property. We went over this first as a tool to complete difficult multiplication. He did quite well with this and I left him with some work in his workbook as further practice."
"The student has a Math quiz coming up on Monday, so we reviewed the concepts that will be covered. We practiced place value and writing different forms of numbers. She worked on the skills of comparing numbers and counting coins. For Reading, the student continued to read the book we have been working on. She practiced the skills of predicting, retelling, and comprehension."
