Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's session, we continued to review integration for the student's Calc final. Specifically, we worked on using the graphing calculator for integration problems as a way to check answers. We also focused on finding the area between two curves as well as the volume of a solid using the washer method. The student is really starting to understand the material better, but there is still work we need to do so she can get a better foundation going into her final. We are going to continue with volumes then work on material from their second exam tomorrow."
"We reviewed all of the factoring techniques that we covered in the previous session. We covered inverses of functions, graphing inverse functions based on original equations on the same coordinate grid, parent function, transformations of functions (vertically and horizontally), and operations with functions (composition, addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc.)."
"We covered all of the student's workbook and reviewed polynomials, synthetic division, imaginary numbers, inverse graphs, and domain/range of polynomial functions. She worked very hard and stayed focused. I assigned her the rest of the workbook and to bring her next workbook to our next session. She made a 92 on the last exam. This session went very well, with a definite improvement from last session."
"We continued to work on solving quadratic equations. The student did not have any work from his class, so I just gave him problems that I had. I also taught him how to solve quadratics by completing the square. He says that in his class they have only worked problems by factoring, so solving by completing the square was new to him. He is doing very well with quadratics."
"The student has a test coming up, so we went over his review sheet. We did problems and discussed solving, factoring, and simplifying polynomials. We also discussed how to find slant, vertical, and horizontal asymptotes."
"The student's homework assignment covered factorials, permutation, and combination. She struggled at first with setting up the factorial correctly. We discussed what each part of the equation meant and how set up the equation correctly. After this, she could correctly answer the questions."
