Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session was a continuation of the previous session in which we worked on getting the student ready for his geometry quiz over lateral and surface area and volumes of 3 dimensional polygons. He was doing much better with the concepts this session than he was in the previous session and felt that he was ready for his quiz the next day."
"Today we started the unit on circles and tangent lines. We actually spent the first hour going over the definition and derivation of sin and cos because the straight memorization was just not cutting it for her. We spent that time and it really seemed to help. The last half hour of the session we spent burning through her homework problems, she really seems to be understanding trig much better. She recognizes patterns quicker, and she's getting better and recognizing special triangles. She had a click moment about halfway through that was just wonderful - she was genuinely excited about math, and for someone struggling with math, that is a very big step."
"In today's session, we worked on some quizzes that the student had to complete. We worked on the quizzes in full detail. The quizzes that were done, we reworked with a different set of problems to get more practice. The student was confident with the material we covered. She got a 79% on one of her tests that we reviewed last week. A significant improvement was seen in her material and her confidence. I find the student is comfortable with material we are learning at that moment in time. I am overall satisfied with this tutoring session."
"We worked on the student's homework packet dealing with right triangles and trig. We talked through each problem and how to set it up. We reviewed the SOHCAHTOA mnemonic device for remembering the trig functions. She is getting much better at identifying which function is used and setting up the problem."
"The student has an exam tomorrow, so we covered material for her exam. It was mostly on shapes, like triangles, polygons, and circles, and how to find the area/perimeter of different shapes. The most complicated problems were probably the polygons, because they required trig, but she seems to have a good understanding of SOH CAH TOA and when to use which. Also, she understood the formulas for each and how to find them in case she forgets. I recommended that she make herself a quick formula sheet that she can study before the exam."
"We worked on determining arc lengths and measures when given a central angle. The student worked on the homework and did some extra problems to cement understanding. We prepared for the quiz tomorrow by reviewing the assigned practice problems for the quiz."
