Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we went over the student's revised version of his hypothesis, as well as an important paragraph in his report. Since we are getting closer to the presentation date, we decided that it was best for her to focus on questions that the judges might ask and creating concise answers for them. We played a little bit of hangman and we will continue to discuss these topics tomorrow."
"The student and I covered Capacitors in parallel and series, picking up from last week. He said he found it easy to set up the problems for capacitors in parallel or in series, but struggled with both. I decided to show him how to break it down and make it look a way he does understand. After that we covered Resistors and anything else he might cover this week."
"The student said that she has been keeping up with the schedule for AP Chemistry review but is a bit behind on Physics. She was planning on catching up on Physics after today's session. One of the best ways to prep for the AP tests is to continue to work hard learning the current topics in class. She said she was having a hard time grasping a few of the concepts in her current class packet, so we went through the packet in detail. The packet covers atomic structure and periodicity, including quantum mechanics, the photoelectric effect, emission spectra, ionization energy, and more. We worked on deciphering photoelectron spectroscopy and explaining how it relates to atomic structure, electron configuration, and ionization energy. We discussed effective nuclear charge, atomic radius, and ionic radius as well. The material is conceptually difficult, so we will spend some time applying the concepts to problems in the future."
